Debra Wilcox, a horse lover all her life, volunteered in 2016 to advocate for a small band of wild horses that free roamed in her community on public lands. She organized the Wild horse street rally that recieved local and national attention—her work with Wild Horse Observers Association, the plaintiff in Whoa Vs. NMLB lead to her volunteer work as a director for the nonprofit
As a director, she attended NM legislature sessions supporting wild horse bills; she was subpoenaed by the New Mexico Live Stock Board to testify at the wild horse trial and helped rewild the horses to Alto NM in 2018 after the court ruled in favor of the wild horses.
The popular Facebook page, created by Debra "The Wild Horse Rally page," helped publicize, unite and organize events supporting the wild horses.
Debi also spoke on news media: KOB, Ruidoso News, and articles in the Albequerque journal advocating for the horses to be released back to Alto, NM.
In 2020 Debi founded Wild and Running Free, a nonprofit that's mission is to serve and protect the plant's wild horses. She lives in Lincoln County and enjoys observing wild horses in the wild and living close to nature and continues to volunteer for Wildhorse causes.
